INTO has an App for that!

INTO is pleased to announce the launch of its first ever mobile apps! To help make our new students’ arrival as smooth a process as possible, our central and centre marketing teams have been busy creating mobile apps for each UK and US centre. These have been designed and produced to supplement and complement the pre departure guide, which has been produced in PDF format, giving our students the choice of how they receive our welcome information.

Steve Rawlings, Assistant Director- Web and Digital, said, 'We are delighted to release these apps and see them as the first step in our mobile development. With usage of the web and access to information changing so rapidly, particularly among many of the young people we engage with, it is important that INTO responds with exciting new offers'. He continued, '…broadly speaking, our mobile apps have everything that students need to know about arriving and the centre. We'll be adding new functionality so that it can help us to ensure that students have received the vital information they need for when they get to their destination.

'

The mobile app has been designed so that new functions and updates can be built in on both Apple and Android versions- and the team are already close to getting the apps made available on Blackberry too. The apps will allow students to use Google Maps on their phones, to locate landmarks on a campus or in a town, engage with Social Media and communicate with friends and relatives at home.

Steve Rawlings added, 'It will allow them to let the people back home they arrived safe and sound, with the ability to post photos of their first impressions to their Facebook pages, view videos and image galleries and have all their important phone numbers available as soon as they download'.

Moving forward, the team plan on developing the app further, to explore the possibility of increasing interactivity to use the mobile app to help track where students have, or haven't, submitted all important forms or other vital communications from students and parents. The mobile app will also be available in Chinese within the next six weeks!

INTO Colorado State University, Preparing For Launch!

Following February’s announcement of INTO North America’s third US partnership with Colorado State University, a whirlwind of activity has been underway in Fort Collins as staff from INTO and leadership from across the University gear up to welcome the first cohort of INTO CSU students in August.

In preparation for this, major renovations are underway at Spruce Hall, the new home of INTO CSU, which will house the program's faculty, staff and administrative offices as well as classrooms and social spaces for students. Renovations will transform the building into an inspiring and modern space for staff and students alike and we welcome the newest members of the INTO CSU academic and administrative team who have recently been appointed, many of whom are joining INTO CSU from previous positions within the University.

"We are so thrilled to have such a talented group of professionals joining the INTO CSU team and we are quickly readying ourselves to welcome students in August," said Liz Munro, Center Director. "INTO CSU will offer the best possible experience to students who choose to study at this world-class institution. The university and the INTO CSU staff look forward to welcoming our first cohort to the Colorado State community."

The center's new hires include: Kim Loomis, Finance Manager Joe Rymski, IT Manager, formerly with CSU's Office of Admissions Nancy Berry, Pathway Programs Director, formerly Assistant Director of CSU's Intensive English Program Regina Franklin, Admissions and Academic Support Manager, formerly Office Manager for CSU's Intensive English program Tamara Burns, Marketing Communications Coordinator, formerly with CSU's Division of Continuing Education

These new additions complement existing INTO CSU staff members including Pattie Cowell, Interim Academic Director for INTO CSU, who recently received the University's prestigious John Stern Distinguished Professor Award in recognition for her 34 years of service to the University.

Tributes from Pattie's former students began pouring in upon news of her nomination. "When Professor Cowell became my advisor, I felt truly fortunate. She became both a mentor and friend. I was able to see her teaching qualities up close and behind the scenes," said Julia Doggart, former CSU student.

Colleagues from the university also commented on Pattie's nomination, they remarked, "In a career so diverse, dedicated, and inspiring, she can rightly be considered the model of all the qualities that the College values in its faculty, her record fulfilling and surpassing the pinnacles in teaching, mentoring, advising, research & creativity, and service."

Staff Conference 2012

The dust has now settled on the fourth annual INTO Staff Conference which saw academic and administrative staff from all over the world converge on the city of Corvallis, home of the Oregon State University Beavers and the INTO OSU International Living-Learning Center.

With a huge array of seminars, workshops and lectures taking place, the two-day conference showcased the very best of INTO Oregon State University and welcomed presentations from staff members based at each of our centers. Also in attendance were three keynote speakers providing insights into CLAC, EAP and OSU's industry links with the global ICT giant Intel.

The successes of the conference pays tribute to the exceptional work INTO and our partners are doing in meeting the challenges faced by higher education providers across the international landscape. Andrew Colin, Chairman of INTO University Partnerships had this to say, "I'm extremely proud of our organisation. I'm very clear about our values and only want to be involved in projects we can be proud of and I'm glad we share the same values of our university partners."

Staff members were also treated to a traditional OSU welcome with the university band, football team and cheerleading squad making us feel like honorary members of Benton County. The real culture shock came when 'Team INTO' competed against the members of the Oregon State University American football team in an apparent game of Touch. Although I am not at liberty to mention any names, I can report that several members of staff awoke the next morning with back pain as well as a bruised ego having been shown up by real athletes!

Looking past our injuries, special thanks must be given to INTO OSU's Center Director, Amy McGowan, Bob Gilmour (Director of Academic Programs), Valerie Rosenberg (Director of Student Experiences) and the rest of the team at INTO Oregon State University who worked tirelessly in putting on a great show and demonstrating the very best in American hospitality.

Whether you attended or not, you will be able to view all of the materials provided by each presenter by clicking here and logging in using the following credentials to view the conference program and see a list of all available materials!
