INTO St George's, University of London

 
 
Offering distinctive degree courses in medicine and biomedical science as well as pre-university preparation programmes, INTO St George’s, University of London is unique.

INTO St George's, University of London will admit its first students to its medical International Foundation programme in September 2011. The students will be based at the INTO London Study Centre near Liverpool Street for their classes, with some of the course also delivered at the University campus in Tooting. If they successfully pass the course, the interview and the UKCAT, then they will be able to progress on to a medical or biomedical sciences degree programmes at the University.

September 2011 will also see the first INTO St George's, University of London students enrol on the BSc in Biomedical Science (International).

In September 2012, the first students will start the innovative degree programmes in International Medicine and International Graduate Medicine. Traditionally, the number of international students studying on medicine degree programmes is limited by the UK Government, but the distinctive programmes made possible by the INTO partnership will be not be capped in the same way. Instead of undertaking clinical practice in the UK, students on the programme will take the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and spend their clinical practice in the USA.

Facilities for success 

Some INTO St George's, University of London courses are delivered at the University's campus in Tooting, London, while others are delivered at the London Study Centre, or at a mixture of the two.

St George's, University of London campus

The University shares a campus with St George's Healthcare Trust, one of the UK's busiest hospitals. The University is part of a hub of an extensive network of acute hospital, primary care and social services provision. The combination of supportive learning environments with a wealth of local clinical experience contributes to the distinctiveness of the courses and the training that students receive is one immersed in the clinical environment.

Students have full access to the clinical skills Laboratories and patient simulators, as well as the University Library, and IT suites. Also based on site is a Sports Centre and the students' union.

The London Study Centre

The INTO London Study Centre provides a world-class student experience in the heart of London's financial district. The Centre is within a few minutes' walk of Liverpool Street station, providing excellent transport links across London, as well as a wide range of shops, restaurants and cafés.

The new state-of-the-art Centre provides firstclass teaching and learning facilities for over 1000 students. The Centre has a café and comfortable, communal spaces where students can socialise and make new friends. Its first-rate teaching facilities are flexible to respond to a variety of learning requirements and include:

  • a multi-purpose lecture theatre
  • state-of-the-art IT and language laboratories
  • a Learning Resource Centre
  • tutorial and teaching classrooms
  • student support services
  • modern and comfortable breakout spaces.

The London Study Centre features the latest technologies to support our students' studies. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards, and there are two multimedia suites equipped with ISIS flipscreen computers.

 
 
 

The unique programmes at INTO St George's, University of London have been developed with and will be validated by the University. They will help to meet the institution'sstrategic plans for internationalisation.

 

International Medicine (BSc/MD) (subject to vaildation)

  • A six year degree programme
  • First four years spent at St George's, University of London in Tooting. Final two years in clinical practice in the United States
  • Enables the University to increase the number of international students, currently limited by the UK Government cap.

 

International Graduate Medicine (MD) (subject to vaildation)

  • A four year degree programme for students with a previous bachelors or masters degree
  • First two years are spent at St George's, University of London and final two years in clinical practice in the United States

 

The aim of both the medical courses is to produce medical graduates with the essential knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes required to practice medicine competently and professionally in a patient-centred, multi-professional environment, and equip the students for a career of life-long learning and professional development.

 

In particular these courses provide a strong emphasis on professional and clinical practice with guided support and year-on-year progress testing towards the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE).

 

Biomedical Science (International) (BSc)

  • Three year degree programme
  • Designed to prepare international students for a range of medical related careers or medicine
  • Taught at St George's, University of London in Tooting

 

International Foundation programme in Medical, Biomedical and Health Sciences (subject to vaildation)

  • One year long programme
  • Provides academic preparation for first year undergraduate entry in medical, biomedical and health sciences, as well as English language study
  • Students successfully completing of the programme and additional testing will be considered for entry to the first year of the International Medicine or Biomedical programme.
